We are nearly caught up in real-time now. We stayed in Lucca from September 18th through the 22nd so only just left a few there two days ago. It was a beautiful flat with the most comfortable bed of any we have yet stayed in.
From Wikipedia: Lucca is known as an Italian "Città d'arte" (City of Art) from its intact Renaissance-era city walls[5][6] and its very well preserved historic center, where, among other buildings and monuments, are located the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, which has its origins in the second half of the 1st century A.D., the Guinigi Tower, a 45-metre-tall (150 ft) tower that dates from the 1300s [7][8] and the Cathedral of San Martino.[9]
This is the wall that surrounds the city of Lucca. Because of this wall, which is 80 feet thick, has protected itself from invasion since 1648. On top of this wall is a park where we rode bikes. It was so much fun!
